Types of Military Flags for Sale

Air Force Flag

The flag of the United States Air Force is navy blue. It includes the crest and shield of the Air Force and is surrounded by thirteen white stars to represent the original 13 colonies. The three stars at the top between the wings of the eagles represent the three Departments of Defense (Army, Navy, and Air Force).

The flag was officially adopted by President Harry S. Truman in 1951 and has remain unchanged since then.

Army Flag

The flag of the United States Army is white. It features a blue War Office seal and a red scroll underneath that says “United States Army.” It also displays the year 1775, which is the Continental Army was created with the appointment of George Washington as the General of the Army.

The army was the armed service without a flag, so one was created in 1956 to represent the entire service. The flag was dedicated to the general public on June 14, 1956.

Coast Guard Flag

The Coast Guard Flag is white with a navy deal Seal of the United States. Above the eagle in the seal are the words “United States Coast Guard.” Featured below the eagle is the Coast Guard motto “Semper Paratus” which means “always ready.” The flag also featured the year 1790, which is when the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service was founded.

The current flag was officially adopted on January 28, 1964.

Marine Flag

The Marine Corps flag is red and features the Corps’ emblem in gray and gold. The emblem consists of an eagle, a globe, and an anchor. Underneath the emblem is a banner that reads “United States Marine Corps.”

Navy Flag

The Flag of the United States Navy is dark blue. It features the seal of the U.S. Department of Navy, which comprises of a ship and an eagle. There is a yellow scroll with the words “United States Navy” underneath.

The flag was officially authorized by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on April 24, 1959.


The POW/MIA was created in the 1970s in order to honor those in the military who had been taken as prisoners of war, as well as those who were still missing. The design features a silhouette of a prisoner of war alongside a guard tower and barbed wire. The flag also says “You Are Not Forgotten” underneath the photo of the POW.

National POW/MIA Recognition Day is the third Friday of September each year. It was established by President Jimmy Carter in 1979 and since then each U.S. President has commemorated the holiday. A ceremony is held each year at the Pentagon to honor those who were held captive and eventually returned, as well as those who are still missing in action.
